Last Friday, 25 February 2011, 120 children from Atholl Heights Primary School in Westville, participated in a 24 hour Read to Feed Read a Thon. The idea of the Read to Feed Read a Thon is based on Heifer's International South Africa's programme called Read to Feed. This programme helps improve children's reading skills as well as increases their awareness of critical issues affecting the world and encourages a philanthropic spirit from an early age. The programme usually runs for about 5-6 weeks in participating schools. During that time, for every book a child reads they obtain sponsorship from their parents and/or friends. The collected funds support Heifer's work to alleviate poverty and provide sustainable development in South Africa. As a token of our appreciation...
